The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has commended Kaduna State for what it described as significant progress in humanitarian and empowerment initiatives under the administration of Governor Uba Sani.

The commendation came on Thursday when the Global Director General for the Africa Region Headquarters of the IHRC, H.E. Tivlumun Innocent Ahure, led a delegation on a courtesy visit to Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna.

Speaking during the visit, Ahure said Kaduna State was selected for a global survey and assessment of humanitarian projects due to what the Commission observed as “remarkable developmental strides” in the last two years.

He said the assessment covered all three senatorial zones and involved direct engagement with rural communities and vulnerable groups to ensure credibility and neutrality.

According to him, empowerment indicators in the state rose from 20 per cent to 70 per cent within two years of the current administration, a climb he noted previously took eight years to achieve only 20 per cent.

He also cited gains in agricultural reforms, skills acquisition programmes, girl-child education, and efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children, describing the state as “a model of purposeful leadership.”

Governor Uba Sani, in his remarks, said human rights and dignity remain central to democratic governance, adding that the administration will continue to prioritise policies that improve the welfare of citizens.

He said the report and recognition by the IHRC would motivate the government to intensify development efforts across the state.

During the visit, the Governor received two international honours, the Kofi Annan Medal of Honor for Development in Africa and the Order of the Crusader of Liberty (Haile Selassie Medal), awarded in recognition of the state’s achievements in grassroots development and human rights advocacy.

He was also inducted as a Chartered Fellow of the International Human Rights Commission (CIHR) after the Commission rated Kaduna State’s humanitarian and empowerment performance at 92 per cent.

Governor Sani dedicated the honours to the people of Kaduna State, describing them as the driving force behind the state’s progress.
