Governor Yusuf Directs Kano Emirs to Sustain Annual Durbar Celebration

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed all Emirs in the state to sustain the annual Durbar festival as part of efforts to preserve Kano’s cultural heritage and strengthen traditional institutions.

The governor gave the directive during the opening ceremony of Kanfest (Kalankuwa) 2025, an annual event aimed at celebrating Kano’s cultural diversity, empowering young creatives and women, and promoting global partnerships in arts and tourism.

Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf pledged the continued support of the state government to ensure that the centuries-old Durbar tradition is preserved and showcased to the world.

“Our administration remains committed to investing in arts, culture, and tourism as instruments of social cohesion, youth engagement, and economic diversification,” the governor said.

The Emir of Kano and Chairman of the State Council of Emirates, Dr. Muhammadu Sanusi II, commended the state government’s renewed efforts to revive and promote cultural traditions that define Kano’s identity.

The three-day Kanfest 2025 features cultural exhibitions, traditional performances, local cuisine displays, games, drama, crafts, and paper presentations.

The event attracted traditional title holders, members of the diplomatic corps, artisans, investors, and cultural groups from across the country.
