Former Sokoto State Deputy Governor Mukhtar Shagari has urged northerners to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing infrastructure development and ongoing government reforms as reasons for his call.
Shagari made the appeal while congratulating Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership on the party’s presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna State on Saturday.
In a statement signed by his media aide, Musa Ubandawaki, Shagari described the event as a demonstration of the party’s unity and organisational strength saying the turnout of party leaders, northern governors, stakeholders and grassroots supporters highlighted the region’s importance in Nigeria’s political landscape.
Shagari also congratulated Tinubu on the commissioning of the Kaduna-Abuja dual carriageway. He described the road project as a major infrastructure achievement.
According to him, efficient road networks facilitate trade and ease the movement of people, goods and that improved transportation could boost economic activities and create jobs.
Farmers, small-scale traders and transport operators are among those he said could benefit from better road infrastructure.
The former minister urged the Federal Government to sustain infrastructure development while prioritising security, economic stability and job creation.
He also called for stronger social protection measures to improve citizens’ living conditions stressing that public support for the administration must be matched by tangible results. He said transparency, accountability and regular engagement with citizens were essential to effective governance reiterating that a second term for Tinubu would provide an opportunity to consolidate ongoing projects and strengthen existing reforms.
The former deputy governor also urged APC leaders to maintain internal unity and improve communication with Nigerians as these efforts would be important to the party’s electoral campaign.
