The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidates in the Northwest have pledged greater regional cooperation and a ₦110,000 minimum wage if elected in the 2027 governorship elections.
The candidates made the commitment as part of the signing of the ADC Northwest Gubernatorial Campaign 2027–2031 Policy Compact, aimed at addressing poverty, insecurity, unemployment and challenges in the education sector across the region.
Speaking during the signing, the ADC governorship candidate for Kebbi State, Abubakar Malami, said Nigerians had yet to experience the benefits expected from the removal of the fuel subsidy.
Malami argued that, rather than improving living conditions, the subsidy removal had contributed to increased hardship and economic setbacks for many Nigerians.
“We have not seen the benefits of the fuel subsidy removal. Instead, its removal has caused setbacks and plunged Nigerians into hardship,” Malami said.
According to him, the concerns facing the Northwest motivated the ADC governorship candidates in the region to come together and develop a common policy direction for rescuing residents from worsening economic and social challenges.
He said the candidates had agreed to work collectively towards tackling poverty, insecurity, poor access to education and unemployment if elected into office in 2027.
Malami said the policy compact was designed to demonstrate the candidates’ commitment to regional cooperation and coordinated governance beyond individual state interests.
A major component of the compact is a proposed ₦110,000 minimum wage for workers in the Northwest states governed by the ADC, should the party secure victory in the 2027 elections.
The commitment comes amid continued concerns over the rising cost of living and the purchasing power of Nigerian workers, with political parties expected to present concrete economic policies ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Malami further assured voters that the candidates would remain committed to the promises contained in the policy compact.
“We all pledged greater regional cooperation and a ₦110,000 minimum wage if elected,” he said.
“We will ensure that we fulfil all the promises we have made to the people, if we win the 2027 election.”
The ADC candidates’ policy compact places economic relief, security, education, employment and inter-state cooperation among the issues expected to shape the party’s campaign in the Northwest ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development also signals the ADC’s attempt to present a coordinated regional political platform as parties prepare for what is expected to be a highly competitive electoral contest in 2027.
