As Nigeria prepares for the 2027 general elections, an aspirant for the Federal House of Representatives under the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Abubakar Sadiq Saadu Fakai, has urged politicians to put national interest ahead of personal ambition.
Fakai made the call during an interview with s24television, where he spoke about the need for responsible politics and better leadership in Nigeria.
He said political parties and candidates should focus on policies and ideas that can improve the lives of Nigerians.
Fakai urged politicians to reject money politics as the country moves closer to the 2027 elections.
He said political office should serve the public and not provide a path to personal wealth or influence.
According to him, every candidate has a responsibility to contribute to Nigeria’s progress.
He also asked voters not to allow financial inducements to determine their choice at the polls.
Fakai urged Nigerians to examine candidates carefully before deciding who to support.
The ADC aspirant said citizens have a major role to play in improving Nigeria’s democracy.
He encouraged voters to support candidates with clear plans for development.
He also urged citizens to hold elected officials accountable after elections.
Fakai said voters should demand action when leaders fail to fulfil their campaign promises.
He stressed that political participation should not end after election day.
Fakai also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to protect the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process.
He urged the commission to remain independent and free from political influence.
According to him, Nigerians need a fair electoral system that allows them to choose their leaders without pressure or interference.
He said trust in the electoral process remains important to the success of Nigeria’s democracy.
The ADC aspirant also appealed to political parties, candidates and their supporters to work together in the national interest.
He said Nigeria’s democratic system gives citizens and leaders the chance to review policies and make changes when those policies fail to deliver results.
Fakai stressed that politicians should see their differences as part of democracy rather than a reason for division.
As the 2027 elections approach, he urged political actors and voters to play their roles responsibly.
He said putting Nigeria first should remain the priority for political parties, candidates and citizens.
