The Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, has recorded a 202 percent week-on-week increase in the number of terrorist commanders, fighters and affiliates surrendering to Nigerian troops.
According to a statement issued in Maiduguri on Monday by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, more than 150 terrorists surrendered in the current week, compared with over 50 recorded in the previous week.
The military described the development as an unprecedented increase, attributing the surge to sustained intelligence-led operations, intensified military pressure and coordinated efforts to encourage terrorists to abandon their activities.
The Joint Task Force said the increase indicates growing pressure within terrorist formations, particularly on their freedom of movement, access to logistics and ability to sustain their operations.
It added that the recovery of weapons and ammunition from some of those who surrendered further demonstrates the impact of ongoing military operations against terrorist networks in the North East.
Operation Hadin Kai said its counter-insurgency strategy combines kinetic operations with intelligence gathering, strategic communication and civil-military engagement.
According to the military, the approach is aimed at disrupting terrorist activities and support networks while weakening extremist narratives and encouraging more fighters and affiliates to disengage from terrorism.
The military also said strategic communication remains a key part of the campaign. It is being used to communicate credible messages to terrorists willing to surrender while highlighting the consequences of continued association with terrorist groups.
The Joint Task Force explained that all persons who surrender are profiled and documented before being handled in line with established procedures and applicable laws.
The Theatre Command said it would sustain the current momentum and intensify efforts to encourage further surrenders while weakening terrorist recruitment and logistics networks.
The Military High Command also commended troops for their resilience, discipline and operational effectiveness. It urged them to maintain the pressure and continue denying terrorist elements freedom of action across the North East.
