Coventry City have agreed a deal to sign Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest, with the permanent transfer now moving towards completion.
Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that the two clubs have reached a full agreement, while Awoniyi is currently undergoing his medical ahead of the move.
The 29-year-old forward will become a new attacking option for Coventry boss Frank Lampard as the club prepares for the new Premier League season.
Awoniyi leaves Nottingham Forest after making 103 appearances for the club and scoring 23 goals across all competitions. He also holds a place in Forest history after scoring the club’s first Premier League goal of the modern era following their return to the English top flight.
His time at Forest included a series of injury setbacks, but the striker remained a popular figure among supporters. Several Forest fans have taken to social media to thank him for his contribution, with some crediting him for helping the club survive difficult periods in the Premier League.
For Coventry, the move provides additional firepower in attack following their promotion to the Premier League. Awoniyi will also link up with fellow compatriot Frank Onyeka at the club, adding further Nigerian representation to the squad.
With the medical underway, Awoniyi now stands on the verge of a new chapter with Coventry City. He will look to rediscover his goalscoring form and make an impact under Lampard.
