Former Senate President and National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has criticized the Federal Government after the Court of Appeal reversed the party’s deregistration.
The ruling restores the ADC’s legal status and allows it to continue participating in Nigeria’s political process. Party members and supporters have welcomed the judgment, describing it as a victory for democracy.
Reacting to the judgment, Mark said the move to deregister the ADC threatened democratic principles and political freedom.
He argued that opposition parties play an important role in strengthening democracy. According to him, they provide alternative ideas and help hold governments accountable.
Mark warned that attempts to weaken opposition parties could reduce political competition and limit voters’ choices.
The ADC chairman praised the Court of Appeal for its decision. He described the judgment as a victory for democracy, justice, and the rule of law.
Mark said all political parties deserve equal treatment under the law. He added that democracy grows stronger when authorities protect political rights and encourage participation.
Mark expressed confidence in the future of the ADC. He said the party would continue to contribute to national development and remain active in Nigeria’s political landscape.
The ruling comes as political parties prepare for future elections. Many analysts believe the decision could strengthen opposition politics and encourage wider participation in the democratic process.
ADC supporters have also praised the verdict. They said the judgment reinforces judicial independence and protects the rights of political parties.
Political observers expect the ADC to continue its activities across the country. Stakeholders will also monitor the case closely for any new developments.
