Hotels, clubs, and event centres have been directed to strengthen hygiene protocols across the state. The Lagos State Safety Commission issued a precautionary advisory following Ebola outbreaks reported in parts of Central and East Africa. Officials say the move is aimed at protecting residents and visitors before any potential threat reaches Nigeria.
While authorities stressed that there is currently no confirmed Ebola case in Lagos or anywhere in Nigeria, Lagos however remains on high alert due to its status as a major international travel and business hub.
Hotels, nightclubs, lounges, restaurants, and event centres have been directed to immediately improve hygiene measures. Management teams are expected to ensure stricter health and safety compliance.
The state has ordered facilities to install hand hygiene stations at entrances and common areas and these stations should include running water, liquid soap, or alcohol-based sanitizers.
Operators have also been instructed to increase cleaning and disinfection routines. Frequently touched surfaces such as door handles, counters, handrails, menus, and payment terminals must receive extra attention.
Businesses are being urged to train staff to identify early signs of illness and employees showing symptoms such as fever are expected to stay away from work until medically cleared.
Hospitality centres have been advised to designate temporary isolation areas for anyone who suddenly becomes seriously ill while on the premises allowing health authorities to respond quickly if necessary.
Lagos authorities have also strengthened surveillance and biosecurity screening at Murtala Muhammed International Airport. Travelers arriving from affected regions are receiving increased health monitoring.
Lagos officials say there is no cause for panic, but preparedness remains essential.
