The Abia State Police Command has arrested officers linked to a viral video showing alleged misconduct at a checkpoint in Uturu.
Police spokesperson DSP Maureen Chinaka disclosed this in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa.
According to the command, authorities launched an investigation immediately after the video surfaced online.
“The complainant was contacted, and the officers involved were identified, traced, and promptly arrested,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police also directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the officers for possible disciplinary action.
Meanwhile, the command restated its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and respect for human rights during police operations.
The commissioner warned that the command would not tolerate misconduct or abuse of power by officers.
The viral video showed a police officer questioning a commuter for carrying three mobile phones.
The commuter, who recorded the encounter, asked the officer why he was not wearing a name tag.
Another officer objected to being filmed, while the officer in question responded in pidgin, “Make you record am. I no dey fear.”
The situation later became tense after the commuter threatened to contact the Inspector-General of Police.
“Oya, call am,” the officer replied before a struggle reportedly followed.
The incident sparked criticism online and renewed concerns about police conduct at checkpoints.
