Replace NMDPRA boss

President removed Saidu Mohammed as the Authority Chief Executive and nominated Rabiu Abdullahi Umar as his replacement, pending Senate confirmation.

The Presidency announced the decision in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga. He explained that the action aligns with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act 2021.

The government says the change aims to strengthen regulation in Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum sectors.

The Tinubu NMDPRA boss removal Rabiu Umar nomination also reflects efforts to improve efficiency in the oil and gas industry.

Officials believe stronger leadership will enhance transparency, boost investor confidence, and support energy reforms under the administration’s agenda.

Rabiu Umar brings more than 25 years of experience in energy, manufacturing, and infrastructure. He holds a degree in Accounting from Bayero University and has completed executive training at Harvard Business School.

His nomination now awaits approval by the Senate, which must confirm key federal appointments.

Until confirmation, the most senior official at the NMDPRA will oversee operations in an acting capacity. The Presidency thanked Saidu Mohammed for his service and wished him well in future roles.

The leadership change follows the earlier exit of former NMDPRA chief, Farouk Ahmed, in December 2025. Analysts say the move highlights ongoing reforms in Nigeria’s petroleum sector.
