Peter Obi on Thursday led a high-level Southeast delegation to Bauchi State, in a move aimed at strengthening national unity and deepening cross-regional political cooperation.

The visit comes at a time of growing political realignments across Nigeria, as leaders begin early consultations ahead of future elections.

Obi and his delegation held a private meeting with Governor Bala Mohammed at the Government House in Bauchi.

Key political stakeholders from both regions attended the meeting.

Although details remained largely confidential, sources said discussions focused on building trust, fostering unity, and addressing Nigeria’s pressing governance challenges.

Call for Urgent National Reforms

Speaking after the meeting, Obi stressed the need for urgent reforms, he said Nigeria must change its current trajectory to avoid deeper economic and social problems.

According to him, leaders across regions must work together to find lasting solutions, he warned that division and poor coordination continue to slow national progress.

Obi called for a system that rewards merit and hard work.

He said political connections should not determine success in Nigeria.

He urged leaders to create equal opportunities for all citizens, especially young people seeking jobs and economic stability.

He noted that fairness and inclusion remain key to national development.

Agriculture Highlighted as Growth Driver

Obi identified agriculture as a major solution to Nigeria’s economic challenges.

He said the country has the capacity to generate more revenue from farming than oil.

He pointed to vast unused land in Northern Nigeria as a major advantage.

He added that proper investment in agriculture could boost exports, create jobs, and reduce poverty.

Security Concerns Take Center Stage

Security formed a key part of the discussions.

Obi stressed that farmers cannot return to their fields without safety.

He said improved security would increase food production and stabilize prices.

He also linked insecurity to rising inflation and economic hardship across the country.

Talks on Political Cooperation

The meeting also explored possible political cooperation ahead of future elections.

Both sides discussed ways to strengthen opposition collaboration and present a united front.

Governor Bala Mohammed said political actors must rethink their strategies.

He noted that current party structures remain weak and unstable.

He added that broader alliances could improve governance and political stability.

Influential Figures Join Delegation

Obi arrived with several prominent political figures from the Southeast.

They included former Imo State Governor Achike Udenwa, Senators Ben Obi, Enyinnaya Abaribe, and Victor Umeh.

Others present were Udenta Udenta and Tanko Yunusa.

Their presence underlined the political weight of the visit.

No Formal Agreement Announced

Both sides agreed to continue consultations in the coming months.

However, they did not announce any formal agreement after the meeting.

Observers say the talks could lay the groundwork for future alliances.

The engagement reflects a broader push among political leaders to bridge regional divides.

Analysts believe such meetings could influence Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the next election cycle.

With early alignments already taking shape, continued dialogue between regions may play a key role in shaping future governance and policy direction.
