Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has explained why Marcus Rashford was substituted during the club’s 2-2 draw with Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.
Rashford came off in the 70th minute after feeling a minor physical issue. Carrick said the forward was “feeling a bit of something” but suggested there was no serious concern.
The England international started the match and looked lively on the left side of United’s attack. Carrick praised his performance and said Rashford looked sharp and dangerous.
Rashford is also working to regain his place at Manchester United after spending the previous two seasons on loan at Aston Villa and Barcelona.
Carrick has backed the forward to play an important role for United following his return. His display against Everton offered another positive sign.
Rashford created chances and remained a threat before leaving the pitch.

Benjamin Sesko restored United’s lead with an 88th-minute header.
But Everton fought back again. Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored a spectacular long-range equaliser in the sixth minute of stoppage time to earn Everton a point.
While Rashford’s substitution attracted attention, United’s bigger concern is their defence.
The team has now conceded twice in each of its opening three Premier League games. Carrick knows United must reduce the number of goals they concede if they want to win more matches.
United showed enough attacking quality to score twice against Everton. Mbeumo and Sesko both made important contributions, while Rashford created problems for the Everton defence before his substitution.
However, scoring goals will not be enough if United continue to surrender leads.
The draw leaves United with four points from their opening three league games. Their next Premier League match is a Manchester derby against Manchester City.
That makes defensive improvement an immediate priority for Carrick.
For now, Carrick’s explanation should ease concerns about Rashford.
