Gunmen have killed five people and injured three others in an attack on a forest guards’ office in Kaduna State.

The attack occurred on Wednesday night in Gidan Waya community, Jema’a Local Government Area. The victims included four operatives of the Nigerian Forest Security Service (NFSS) and a student.

According to officials, the attackers stormed the facility at about 8 p.m. from two directions and opened fire on personnel on duty. One of the gunmen reportedly arrived on a motorcycle, while others approached on foot before launching the assault.

An intelligence officer of the NFSS in Kaduna confirmed that most of those killed were security operatives. The fifth victim, a student, was said to be at the office to resolve an issue when the attack happened.

Three injured victims were taken to a hospital for treatment, while security sources said the attack may be linked to ongoing efforts by forest guards to curb banditry in the area.

Residents described the incident as sudden and violent, noting that the area had experienced relative calm before the latest attack. Authorities have yet to announce arrests, as investigations continue.
