A former Commissioner of Police in Katsina and Kano, Muhammed Wakili, has pledged that he would tackle Nigeria’s insecurity challenges within two weeks if given the opportunity.

Wakili made this assertion while speaking to journalists in Gombe, where he addressed the persistent security concerns across the country. He attributed the worsening insecurity largely to the high rate of drug abuse, describing it as a major driver of criminal activities.

The retired police chief expressed regret that he is no longer in active service, noting that he still has much to contribute to national security. He stated that if he were the Inspector-General of Police, he would take decisive steps to restore order and ensure the safety of lives and property.

Wakili also said he would advise the President to prioritize accountability and the fear of God in leadership, emphasizing that governance is a serious responsibility that must be handled with integrity.

He further criticized the country’s security architecture, describing it as underfunded and in urgent need of reform. According to him, inadequate funding continues to weaken operational capacity and effectiveness in tackling crime.

The former CP also raised concerns over poor welfare for junior police officers, stating that insufficient entitlements have contributed to low morale within the force. He stressed that improving welfare and introducing a functional reward system would enhance commitment and professionalism.

Wakili concluded by urging police officers to remain patriotic and dedicated to their duties, insisting that national security requires both institutional reform and individual commitment.
