The 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to rethink supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election due to unmet electricity promises.

In a statement on his official X account, Obi reminded Nigerians that Tinubu pledged to deliver stable electricity within four years or forfeit a second term. He said the promise has not been fulfilled.

Obi highlighted that Nigeria’s power generation remains below 4,000 megawatts on average, despite rising electricity tariffs. He noted that this falls short of the country’s growing energy needs. He also said Nigeria’s per-person electricity use is far below the African average.

Referring to Tinubu’s recent visit to Jos, Obi mentioned remarks allegedly made by the president about the lack of electricity at the airport. He said this shows that power challenges persist.

Obi urged citizens to use elections to demand better governance. He stressed that leaders should prioritize the people’s welfare over unfulfilled promises.
