President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described insecurity as the “enemy of development,” vowing that his administration will not relent in protecting Nigerians.

The President made this declaration in Lagos while hosting Vice President Kashim Shettima and a delegation of 23 state governors for the Eid-el-Fitr (Sallah) celebration.

The gathering at the President’s residence served as a critical briefing following his recent state visit to the United Kingdom.

Addressing the governors, led by the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, President Tinubu emphasized that national security remains his administration’s top priority.

He disclosed ongoing high-level coordination with international partners, including French President Emmanuel Macron, to secure advanced equipment for Nigeria’s security forces.

The President also touched on the economy, warning that the Middle East crisis could trigger global inflation. He urged the state executives to be proactive in their policies.

“I am calling on our governors to translate their visions into programs that directly impact the livelihoods of our citizens. We must prioritize the vulnerable and provide the necessary incentives to cushion the rising costs of energy and transportation.”

During the visit, Vice President Shettima briefed the President on the recent tragic bomb explosions in Maiduguri. President Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to confronting those responsible for the attacks, which claimed 23 lives.

The delegation included governors from across party lines, including Alex Otti of Abia, Douye Diri of Bayelsa, and Monday Okpebholo of Edo, signaling a unified front in addressing the nation’s challenges.
