As scorching temperatures continue to affect parts of Northern Nigeria, Babangida Ruma has called for urgent and massive tree planting campaigns across the region to combat rising heat and environmental degradation.
Ruma made the appeal through a post shared on his verified Facebook page, where he expressed concern over the rapid loss of vegetation in many northern communities.
“To be honest, Northern Nigeria urgently needs massive tree planting initiatives,” he wrote.
According to him, some neighborhoods in the region are gradually turning into desert-like environments, worsening the harsh weather conditions residents are currently experiencing.
“You can enter some neighborhoods and they already look like the Sahara Desert. Of course, the heat will become unbearable for people,” he stated.
The public figure urged individuals and communities to take immediate action by planting at least five trees each, noting that small environmental efforts today could help secure a healthier and cooler future.
“I’m calling on everyone to please plant at least 5 trees. Small actions today can create a cooler and healthier environment tomorrow,” he added, using the hashtag #ThinkLikeRuma.
Northern Nigeria has in recent weeks witnessed intense heatwaves, with residents across several states complaining of extremely high temperatures and worsening environmental conditions.
