A Professor of Political Science, Babayo Sule, has called for intensified political socialization among Nigerians as the country gradually approaches the 2027 general elections.

Speaking to newsmen in Gombe State, Prof. Sule expressed concern over the wave of political defections, describing the trend as worrisome but not unexpected in Nigeria’s political landscape.

He urged citizens to remain calm and to better understand the dynamics of political realignments, noting that such developments are often part of broader strategies shaping electoral outcomes.

“The ongoing defections may seem troubling, but Nigerians should stay calm and understand the political game. It is a head changer that requires awareness and proper engagement,” he said.

The political scientist also criticized what he described as “outrageous policies” by the ruling party, stating that many of these policies have adversely affected ordinary Nigerians.

Prof. Sule further highlighted concerns about Nigeria’s democratic structure, noting that since 1999, the country has largely experienced a two-party dominance between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). According to him, such a system limits political diversity and is not entirely healthy for a thriving democracy.

Despite the ongoing political shifts, he reassured Nigerians that the increasing rate of defections should not discourage them from participating in the democratic process.

He emphasized that every vote still counts and encouraged citizens to remain actively involved in shaping the nation’s political future.

Prof. Sule concluded by calling for sustained peace and unity across the country, stressing that national stability remains essential for credible elections and democratic growth.
