GSU Hosts First International Law Conference

Scholars and legal experts gather to discuss environmental and energy governance for sustainable development.

The Faculty of Law at Gombe State University has held the opening ceremony of its maiden International Conference on Law, bringing together scholars and legal practitioners to discuss pressing global legal issues.

The conference, themed “Law, Society, and Sustainable Development: Emerging Issues in Environmental and Energy Governance,” took place at the Haruna Kadir Rasheed Hall in Gombe and was declared open by the Vice-Chancellor, Sani Ahmed Yauta.

In his remarks, Professor Yauta praised the Faculty of Law for organizing what he described as a timely and intellectually engaging event, noting that the theme addresses critical global concerns, including environmental protection, energy governance, and sustainable development.

The Dean of the Faculty of Law, Farida A. Kera, welcomed participants and expressed joy over the successful hosting of the conference. She described it as a major milestone that has enhanced the faculty’s academic growth and international recognition.

Chairman of the occasion, Yakubu Philemon, emphasized the importance of strong legal frameworks in addressing environmental and energy challenges, noting their relevance to modern legal practice and policymaking.

Delivering the keynote address, Muhammad Tawfiq Ladan highlighted emerging legal issues in environmental protection and energy regulation. He called for stronger collaboration among governments, academic institutions, and industry stakeholders to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including the Grand Khadi of Gombe State, Abdullahi Usman Maikano, and the Vice-Chancellor of North Eastern University, Yusuf Amuda Yahaya, as well as professors, legal experts, students, and invited guests.

The conference marks a significant step in promoting scholarly discussions on the role of law in addressing societal challenges, particularly in environmental protection and energy governance.
