The Nigeria Customs Service has reaffirmed its commitment to joint security operations with the Nigerian military in the North East.
This followed a courtesy visit by the Borno and Yobe Area Command leadership to military authorities in Maiduguri.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Abubakar Idris, led his delegation to Maimalari Barracks on 12 February 2026.
They met with the Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar.
The visit aimed to strengthen cooperation and explore new strategies to curb insecurity and cross-border criminal activities.
Customs officials said geospatial technology would support intelligence gathering and improve monitoring of illegal movements across borders.
Comptroller Idris praised the Armed Forces for their dedication and sacrifices in protecting lives and property.
He said Customs would support military operations through intelligence sharing, border control, and coordinated enforcement actions.

He added that stronger cooperation would also promote legal trade and economic development in Borno and Yobe States.
Major General Abubakar described security as a shared responsibility requiring strong partnership between security institutions.
He stressed the importance of intelligence exchange, joint operations, and modern technology to disrupt criminal networks.
The military assured Customs of continued collaboration to improve security and protect communities across the North East.
