Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised the Senate’s decision to adopt a combination of electronic and manual transmission of election results, warning that it could undermine Nigeria’s democratic process.

Speaking after a closed-door meeting with former military president, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (retd.), in Niger State, Atiku said the mixed method would likely create confusion and weaken public confidence in elections. He stressed that clarity and consistency in result transmission are critical to ensuring credible polls.

The former presidential candidate called on opposition parties to unite and address the issue urgently, noting that safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process should be a shared responsibility across party lines.

Atiku also dismissed the idea of zoning the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying the party’s primary should be open and competitive.
