The Executive Director of YOSPIS, Zainab Nasir Ahmad, has called on Nigerian youths to embrace skills development and steer clear of political violence as the country approaches the 2027 elections.
She appealed while speaking as a guest on S24 Insight, where she raised concerns over what she described as a growing decline in values among young people. According to her, many youths are increasingly drawn to “quick success” without investing in sustainable skills or personal development.
Ahmad warned against allowing themselves to be used by politicians for disruptive activities, especially during election periods. She referenced concerns raised in reports by the United Nations on the dangers of youth involvement in electoral violence, stressing the long-term consequences for individuals and society.
She urged young people to focus on acquiring practical skills that can support self-reliance and contribute to national development, rather than engaging in social vices or being manipulated for short-term gains.
Ahmad also called on government authorities to address the underlying challenges affecting youths, including unemployment and lack of opportunities, noting that sustainable solutions are necessary to secure the country’s future.
In addition, she advocated for increased youth inclusion in politics, emphasizing that meaningful participation would give young people a stronger voice in governance.
She further advised parents to remain committed to providing proper guidance and support for their children, stressing that a stable upbringing is critical to shaping responsible and productive citizens.
