A coalition of women groups has called for an end to what it described as political witch-hunting against aides and associates of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The group, according to a report by Daily Trust, expressed concern over the alleged harassment and persecution of individuals who served under the former governor, urging authorities to ensure fairness, justice, and respect for the rule of law.

The coalition said the continued actions against some former government officials were raising concerns over the possibility of political victimisation, warning that such developments could weaken democratic values and discourage public service.

It appealed to relevant authorities to avoid using state institutions to settle political differences, insisting that every individual should be treated according to the principles of justice and due process.

The women groups argued that public officials should be held accountable where there are proven allegations of wrongdoing but maintained that investigations and legal proceedings must be conducted without bias or political influence.

They called on stakeholders to promote unity, tolerance, and peaceful democratic engagement, stressing that political disagreements should not translate into persecution.

The development comes amid ongoing debates over the activities and policies of the administration of former Governor El-Rufai, with supporters and critics offering contrasting views on accountability and governance issues linked to his tenure.
