Professor Usman Yusuf has called on Nigerians to reject leadership failures and demand accountable governance, declaring that the country needs leaders rather than rulers.

Yusuf made the remarks in Abuja during the launch of a book titled Tinubu: From Renewed Hope to Despair, held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre.

Speaking at the event, the professor urged Nigerians not to become discouraged by the country’s current challenges but to remain committed to the struggle for better governance.

“We love this country,” Yusuf said, stressing the need for citizens to remain determined in their quest for a better Nigeria.

He also used the occasion to express opposition to President Bola Tinubu’s administration, repeatedly declaring, “Tinubu must go,” while arguing that Nigeria needs leaders who are responsive to the needs and aspirations of the people rather than rulers.

Yusuf further criticised the Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket, raising concerns about the religious balance in the country’s political leadership.

He also urged Nigerians not to allow financial inducements to determine their voting decisions, encouraging voters to prioritise the country’s future when choosing their leaders.

The professor called on political leaders and young Nigerians to take responsibility for the country’s future by actively participating in efforts to improve governance and strengthen democracy.

He emphasised the importance of civic engagement and urged citizens to make decisions that reflect their expectations for accountable leadership and national development.

The book launch provided a platform for discussions on Nigeria’s political leadership, governance and the state of the country’s democracy.
