The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two more suspects over the alleged abduction and assault of the Chairman of Ikere West Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Rufus Olorunfemi, and one Funso Ajayi.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, disclosed this in a statement on Monday. He said officers from the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit arrested Daramola Sehinde and Oluyede Dapo on June 6, bringing the total number of suspects in custody to five.
Abutu said investigators would thoroughly investigate the suspects before arraigning them in court while officers continue efforts to arrest others linked to the crime.
The Command also dismissed allegations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deputy governorship candidate, Ayodeji Ogunsakin, that its Rapid Response Squad intimidated, harassed, and unlawfully arrested PDP members ahead of next week’s governorship election.
According to Abutu, officers carried out every arrest based on credible criminal investigations and did not target anyone because of political affiliation.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to justice, professionalism, and the rule of law, stressing that officers would continue to maintain law and order without fear or favour.
The Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, urged residents to remain law-abiding, avoid spreading false information, and stay security conscious. He also assured the public that the Command would not tolerate unlawful arrests, illegal detention, or intimidation under his leadership.
