The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested two suspected cable vandals in Ilorin, Kwara State, over alleged attacks on electricity infrastructure.

The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Nurah Abdullahi, also known as Hartabo, and 23-year-old Sherif Abdullahi, were arrested on October 5, 2026.

According to the report, the arrests followed an intelligence-led operation in the Tanke-Iledu community of Ilorin.

NSCDC spokesperson Ayoola Michael Shola said operatives recovered several items during the operation.

The recovered items include vandalised transformer cables, a motorcycle, a saw, a knife and electrical gloves.

The corps is investigating the alleged involvement of the suspects in the destruction of electricity infrastructure.

Preliminary investigations reportedly linked the suspects to recent attacks on power infrastructure in the area.

However, the allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.

The NSCDC says efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest other individuals suspected of involvement in the incidents.

The arrest highlights ongoing security concerns surrounding the vandalism of electricity infrastructure, which can disrupt power supply and impose additional costs on electricity providers and communities.

The NSCDC is continuing its investigation and says suspects found culpable will face prosecution in accordance with the law.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities around transformers, power lines and other public infrastructure to the appropriate authorities.

The outcome of the investigation is expected to provide further information about the alleged attacks and any wider network involved.
