The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that residents of Ohafia Local Government Area in Abia State have been directed to remain indoors and suspend movement and commercial activities.
The military described the messages as false, urging residents to disregard the misinformation and continue their lawful activities without fear.
In a statement issued by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 14 Brigade, Captain Mazinho Attah, the Army said the viral messages claiming a restriction of movement in Ohafia on Friday, June 19, 2026, were unfounded.
According to the statement, no directive imposing a curfew or restricting commercial activities had been issued by the military or any security agency.
The Army reassured residents that the security situation in the area remains under control.
Army Debunks Rumours of Fulani Herdsmen, Rescue of Abducted Girls
The military explained that the panic stemmed from unverified rumours alleging that a truck carrying individuals believed to be Fulani herdsmen had been seen asking for directions to Ohafia.
However, the Army said no such incident was reported to any military formation or security agency.
It also dismissed claims circulating online that Ohafia youths had rescued abducted girls, noting that no official report of such an incident had been received by security authorities.
Residents Urged to Ignore False Information
The Nigerian Army advised members of the public to refrain from sharing unverified information capable of causing fear and unnecessary panic.
It urged residents to rely only on official and credible sources for security updates.
“Members of the public are advised to disregard unverified messages capable of causing unnecessary panic and are encouraged to obtain information only from official and credible sources,” the statement said.
Army Assures Residents of Adequate Security
The Commander of 14 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Ahmad Mansur Dikko, assured residents of Ohafia that adequate security measures have been put in place in collaboration with other security agencies.
According to the Army, security operatives remain committed to maintaining peace and protecting lives and property across Ohafia and surrounding communities.
The military reiterated its commitment to working with residents to ensure a safe and secure environment while urging the public to report suspicious activities through appropriate security channels.
