The Army destroys hideout in Anambra operation has led to the rescue of three abducted people and the recovery of weapons, ammunition and suspected bomb-making materials.
The Nigerian Army disclosed this in a post on its official X handle on Friday. Troops of the 185 Battalion carried out the operation with the Anambra Vigilante Group under Operation UDO KA.
The operation followed the abduction of three people around the Osakwa General Area of Ihiala Local Government Area. Troops later rescued the victims.
On October 1, 2026, troops arrested a suspected kidnapper identified as Sunday Obi during a snap operation.
Information gathered during interrogation reportedly led the troops to a criminal camp at Abator in Ogbaru Local Government Area, across the Isieke waterside.
The troops used canoes to cross the waterways and reach the hideout. According to the Army, they engaged the armed men, who fled with gunshot wounds.
The Army said troops recovered two AK-47 rifles with magazines, three pump-action guns and three locally made Dane guns.
They also recovered 62 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition and 149 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items included two cartridges and materials suspected to be used in making improvised explosive devices.
The recovered equipment included a solar generator, a power bank, a car battery, two motorcycle batteries, two solar panels and two mobile phones.
The Army said the items provided further insight into the supply network supporting kidnapping and other crimes in the area.
The Army said follow-up operations were underway to arrest the fleeing suspects, their associates, logistics suppliers and other people linked to the criminal network.
It added that Operation UDO KA would continue working with other security agencies and local groups to tackle criminal activities and protect communities across the South East.
