A prominent Islamic cleric, Tijjani Yusuf Ahmad Guruntun, has called on Nigerians to remain vigilant and politically wise ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during his weekly Islamic class in Bauchi, Mallam Guruntun warned citizens against allowing politicians to mislead and exploit them for selfish political interests.
He urged Nigerians not to “throw themselves into destruction” by blindly following politicians who may later abandon them after achieving their political ambitions.
The cleric also condemned social vices such as smoking, drinking alcohol, and fornication, describing them as acts forbidden in Islam. He stressed the need for moral discipline and responsible conduct among citizens.
Mallam Guruntun further advised political leaders and those seeking elective offices to fear God, serve the people sincerely, and do what is right when entrusted with leadership positions.
According to him, good leadership and responsible followership are necessary for Nigeria’s progress and stability ahead of future elections.
