The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to use their knowledge, creativity, and fresh ideas to contribute to Nigeria’s development.
The Governor described the one-year national service as an opportunity for young graduates to make a lasting impact on the country.
Speaking to the corps members, Governor Eno encouraged them to see themselves as partners in nation-building, look beyond ethnic, religious, linguistic, and cultural differences and work together to promote unity, peace, and national development.
According to him, Nigeria depends on young people to provide innovative ideas and practical solutions to its challenges.
The governor said, “As strategic stakeholders in the Nigerian project, your contributions must transcend ethnic, religious, linguistic and socio-cultural boundaries. Our country looks to you for fresh ideas, renewed hope and the promise of a brighter future.”
Governor Eno assured the corps members that his administration remains committed to their welfare and security. He said the state government would continue to provide a safe and supportive environment throughout their service year.
He also acknowledged the poor condition of the NYSC orientation camp. However, he announced that the state government had approved the complete reconstruction of the camp. The project, he said, will improve accommodation, training facilities, and the overall experience of corps members.
The governor further advised the corps members to respect the customs and traditions of their host communities. He encouraged them to interact with residents, appreciate the rich culture of Akwa Ibom State, and participate in community development projects.
Governor Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of corps members. He assured them that their safety and well-being would remain a top priority during their stay in the state.
Earlier, the Akwa Ibom State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Akuagbaogu Rosemary, congratulated the corps members on completing the orientation course. She urged them to take full advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, describing it as a practical solution to youth unemployment.
Rosemary noted that unemployment remains a major challenge in Nigeria. She explained that the SAED programme equips corps members with entrepreneurial and vocational skills. She added that the initiative prepares them for self-employment and creates opportunities beyond the service year.
