The Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Army have reportedly foiled a planned attack in Plateau State.

According to report the operation targeted suspected armed men planning to attack Ganchung Village in Riyom Local Government Area.

The suspects were reportedly spotted near the Primary Health Care Centre in Rim. Security operatives used drones and closed-circuit television (CCTV) to monitor their movements.

The report said the men carried AK-47 and K2 rifles. They were allegedly coordinating the planned attack when surveillance systems detected them.

Following the alert, security operatives launched a pursuit. They reportedly tracked the suspects towards the hinterlands around Mahanga.

However, the armed men fled into nearby mountain hideouts. The report did not confirm whether security forces arrested any suspects.

It also did not establish the number of people involved. Details about their identities and alleged motives remain unclear.

Meanwhile, the DSS has reportedly deployed technology-driven security camps across three local government areas.

These areas are Riyom, Mangu and Barkin Ladi. The agency also plans to extend the initiative to Bokkos.

The deployment aims to improve surveillance and detect potential threats. It could also help security personnel respond faster to suspicious movements.

However, the success of the initiative will depend on effective monitoring. Reliable intelligence and cooperation among security agencies will also remain essential.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has reportedly pledged stronger cooperation with security agencies.

report says that the governor gave the assurance during a recent lecture at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS).

Mutfwang reportedly said Plateau remained open to peace-loving residents. He also warned that security agencies would pursue criminals.

Cooperation between the government and security agencies remains vital. It can help protect vulnerable communities and improve responses to security threats.

Security agencies have urged residents to report suspicious movements and suspected criminal activities.

Residents can help prevent attacks by sharing credible information with the appropriate authorities. They should also avoid spreading rumours or unverified claims.

Meanwhile, report says it could not reach the Nigerian Army’s 3 Division spokesperson in Rukuba Barracks, Jos, for comment before publication. The newspaper also reported that it could not reach the Plateau State Police Command’s spokesperson.

The reported operation highlights the use of surveillance technology to prevent attacks in Plateau State. However, further official information is needed to confirm the full details of the alleged plot.

Security agencies have yet to provide a complete public account of the operation in the report cited.
