Grammy winning singer Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray over a violent altercation at London’s Tape nightclub in February 2023.
The singer entered the plea during a hearing at Southwark Crown Court on July 24, 2026.
Prosecutors alleged that Brown struck music producer Abraham Diaw on the head with a tequila bottle during what they described as an unprovoked attack in the crowded Mayfair nightclub. The incident was captured on CCTV footage.
In exchange for Brown’s guilty plea to affray, prosecutors dropped the more serious charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, assault, and possession of an offensive weapon. His co-defendant and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded guilty to affray.
Under UK law, affray involves using or threatening unlawful violence in a way that would make a reasonable person fear for their safety. The offence carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison.
Brown and Akinlolu remain on bail and are scheduled to be sentenced on October 26, 2026. Brown was previously arrested in Manchester in 2025 after returning to the UK and was released on bail while legal proceedings continued.
The UK’s Crown Prosecution Service described the nightclub incident as a “vicious and unprovoked attack,” stressing that violent behaviour will be prosecuted regardless of a person’s public profile.
