Bayern Munich will face Arsenal in a major Champions League clash on Wednesday without key winger Michael Olise. The French star is suspended after his red card against Viking last week.
The German champions will need other players to step up. Olise has been one of their best performers this season. His absence could prove costly against the English champions.
Olise Suspension Deals Bayern A Blow
Olise was sent off during Bayern’s 3-3 draw with Viking. He received two yellow cards within a minute.
The winger was first booked for a foul. He then reacted to comments from Viking captain Zlatko Tripic by throwing the ball at his head. The incident earned him a second yellow card and the first red card of his career.
His suspension comes at a difficult time for Bayern. The former Crystal Palace player has enjoyed an excellent start to the season.
Olise has scored nine goals and provided five assists in 10 games across all competitions. His impressive form has also placed him among the contenders for the Ballon d’Or.
Kane Leads Bayern’s Attack
Harry Kane has also been in fine form this season. The England captain has scored nine goals and provided six assists in 10 appearances.
Kane played a key role in Bayern’s comeback against Viking. The German side fell two goals behind before the striker scored twice and set up another goal to secure a 3-3 draw.
Bayern also face concerns over Jamal Musiala, who has struggled with injury and illness. Serge Gnabry and Lennart Karl have also failed to hit their best form.
These issues could place more pressure on Kane ahead of Wednesday’s encounter.
Kane Calls For Team Response
Speaking after Bayern’s 6-1 win over RB Leipzig on Saturday, Kane admitted that losing Olise would hurt the team.
“Missing one of your biggest players, you’re going to feel it for sure, but that’s where other people have to step up and show they can take their opportunity,” Kane said.
He also stressed the need for every squad member to be ready when called upon.
Bayern will hope their convincing victory over Leipzig provides a boost before facing Arsenal. Luis Diaz was among the players who impressed in that match.
Bayern Prepare For Arsenal Challenge
Bayern must now find a way to replace Olise’s goals and creativity. His absence gives other attacking players a chance to prove their worth.
Arsenal, meanwhile, will look to take advantage of Bayern’s weakened attack. The clash will test the German side’s strength and depth.
With Kane leading the line, Bayern remain a threat. However, they will need a strong team performance to overcome Arsenal without one of their most influential players.
