FIFA has confirmed that Shakira, Madonna and K-pop group BTS will perform at the first-ever World Cup final half-time show.
The event will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium. Chris Martin will lead the show’s production.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino called the performance a historic moment for football. He said the show would match the scale of the world’s biggest sporting event.
The new format follows the style of the Super Bowl half-time show. However, some fans have raised concerns about longer breaks during matches.
Last year, Shakira performed during the Copa America final in Miami. FIFA also staged a half-time show at the Club World Cup final at MetLife Stadium.
FIFA plans to host fan events in New York City’s Times Square during the final weekend. The event will support FIFA’s Global Citizen Education Fund. The initiative aims to raise $100 million for children around the world.
Meanwhile, Shakira recently teased a new World Cup song. She shared a short video filmed at Maracana Stadium.
