A building has collapsed in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, hours after officials sealed the structure and ordered occupants to leave.
The building collapsed on Monday evening, September 7, 2026.
The FCT Police Command said it received a distress call at about 7:45 p.m. Officers were immediately sent to the scene.
Emergency agencies have started a search and rescue operation at the site.
The FCT Fire Service and other emergency responders are working to find out if anyone is trapped under the rubble. Three ambulances have also been deployed to the area.
Teams from NEMA, FRSC, FERMA, the Federal Fire Service, the Security Service Department and the FCTA are also at the scene.
The police response team was led by ACP Edward Akaniyene, Department of Operations, and ACP Georgelyn Ufomadu, Area Commander, Metro.
The collapse has raised concerns because the FCTA Development Control Department had earlier sealed the building.
Officials also directed people inside the structure to leave.
The police said preliminary checks confirmed that the building had been sealed before the collapse.
Authorities have not yet confirmed what caused the building to collapse.
The police said no casualty had been confirmed at the time of its statement.
However, rescue teams are continuing their search as they work to determine whether anyone is trapped beneath the debris.
The police have asked residents to stay calm and avoid the affected area. They also urged the public to cooperate with emergency workers.
Authorities are expected to investigate the incident and determine what caused the collapse.
