A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has scheduled ten hearing dates to conclude the trial of former Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, over allegations linked to the naira redesign policy.

Justice Maryann Anenih fixed the dates after both the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the defence agreed on a fresh timetable.

The hearings are slated for February 3 and 10; April 1 and 2; May 11–14; and June 9 and 10, when the trial is expected to conclude.

The judge directed all parties to strictly comply with the schedule and assured that the court would make necessary arrangements for smooth proceedings.

During the resumed hearing, an EFCC witness, Emere Chinedu, stated that the Buhari Presidency approved the naira redesign, but with a condition that printing be done locally.

The prosecution’s case centers on allegations that Emefiele unlawfully approved the printing of redesigned naira notes.

Emefiele has denied the charges, maintaining a not guilty plea.

The court adjourned the trial to February 3 for the continuation of cross-examination, marking the start of the new timetable toward the trial’s conclusion.
