15 Killed in Kwara Road Crash as Trailer, Truck Collide

A deadly road crash in Kwara State has claimed the lives of 15 people, the truck was carrying 48 passengers when it crashed.

The accident occurred around 2:32 a.m. on the Ogbomoso-Oko Olowo section of the Ilorin – Jebba Expressway, near the Muslim Cemetery in Kwara State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the driver became fatigued before losing control of the truck, the crash involved only one vehicle.

The truck carried 48 male passengers. Fifteen people died, 17 suffered injuries, and 16 escaped without injuries.

FRSC rescue teams arrived quickly, they took the injured to Arewa Medical Centre and Baki Hospital for treatment.

Emergency workers searched beneath the truck’s load to ensure no additional victims were trapped at the crash scene.

The FRSC urged drivers to avoid driving when tired, especially during overnight trips. It also warned against mixed loading and other unsafe transport practices.

The Kwara tragedy highlights the dangers of driver fatigue, road safety experts say proper rest, careful driving and strict enforcement can help prevent similar crashes and save lives.
