The House of Representatives Committee on Sports has congratulated the Super Eagles on their emphatic 4–0 victory over Mozambique in the Round of 16 of the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), while cautioning the team against complacency as the tournament reaches its decisive stage.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Chairman of the Committee, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, praised the national team for their dominant display and disciplined performance in Monday’s encounter, describing the win as a clear demonstration of Nigeria’s footballing strength and tactical maturity.

Amadu stressed that while the victory was commendable, the Super Eagles must remain fully focused as they prepare for their quarterfinal match, noting that the later stages of the competition demand even higher levels of concentration, determination, and mental toughness.

“The Super Eagles have shown character, unity, and professionalism so far in this tournament. However, this is not the time to relax or lose focus. The goal remains lifting the AFCON trophy, and that requires sustained discipline and hunger,” the statement read.

The House Sports Committee further commended the players and technical crew for their balanced approach, highlighting that goals have been contributed from different departments of the team, a sign of collective effort rather than individual brilliance alone. According to the committee, such teamwork is crucial for success against stronger opponents in the knockout stages.

The lawmakers also acknowledged the tactical input of the coaching crew, crediting their strategies and game management for the team’s impressive performances so far in the competition.

Reaffirming institutional backing, the Committee assured the Super Eagles of the continued support of the National Assembly and the Federal Government as they pursue continental glory. It expressed confidence that with discipline, hard work, and national support, the team has the capacity to emerge champions of the 2025 AFCON.

The Super Eagles will face their next opponents in the quarterfinals later this week, as Nigeria continues its campaign for a fourth AFCON title.
