The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the North-West Development Commission (NWDC), Prof. Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji, has presented the Commission’s 2025 Progress Report to the National Assembly Joint Committee, outlining achievements recorded between January and December despite funding constraints.
The presentation, made to the Joint Committee led by Senator Babangida Hussaini and Hon. Suleiman Abubakar Gumi, highlighted the Commission’s institutional groundwork, ongoing programmes, and key challenges, particularly the non-release of funds.
Members of the Committee commended the NWDC management for making notable progress under limited financial conditions and described the Commission’s foundational efforts as strong and promising.
They pledged legislative support for the deployment of Executive Directors and Directors to further strengthen the Commission’s operational capacity.
The Joint Committee urged the NWDC to prioritise addressing security challenges in the North-West in line with the declared state of emergency and stressed the importance of harmonious working relations between the Commission’s Management and Board.
Lawmakers also assured the Commission of the immediate release of its take-off grant to enable full operations, improve service delivery, and support the reintegration of victims affected by insurgency in the region.
The Committee further advised the NWDC to deepen collaboration with state governments, development partners, investors, and philanthropic organisations to mobilise additional resources for sustainable development.
