Taraji P. Henson is set to lead the cast of Give Me Some Sugah, an upcoming Netflix drama produced by DeVon Franklin and Tyler Perry.
The film reunites Franklin and Perry for another collaboration focused on faith, family, healing and second chances. Tasha Smith directs the project, while Randy Brown, who wrote Miracles from Heaven, serves as the screenwriter.
Give Me Some Sugah is based on the true story of Lenore Lindsey, a Chicago bakery owner whose life changes after a major revelation. The discovery pushes her to confront the past and reconsider the life she has built.

Henson headlines an ensemble cast that includes Joey Bada$$, whose real name is Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott, alongside Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Russell Hornsby and Alexis Louder.
The cast also features Semaj Prather, Arischa Conner, Angela Davis and Caroline Avery Granger. Smith and Franklin will also appear in the film.
For Henson, the project adds another dramatic role to her extensive filmography. The Oscar-nominated actress has built a career around performances spanning drama, comedy and biographical stories.
Tasha Smith Directs ‘Give Me Some Sugah’
Smith takes on both directing and acting duties in the Netflix production. Her work behind the camera has included projects that explore relationships, family and personal transformation.
With Give Me Some Sugah, she brings those themes to a story centered on a Black woman confronting an unexpected turning point in her life.
Meanwhile, Brown brings his experience as a screenwriter to the project. He previously wrote Miracles from Heaven, a faith-based drama based on the true story of a young girl and her family.

The film also marks another collaboration between Franklin and Perry as producers.
Their partnership with Netflix began with Ruth & Boaz, a contemporary romantic drama inspired by the biblical story of Ruth and Boaz. The project featured Tyler Lepley and Serayah and explored themes of love, family, faith and rebuilding after loss.
Now, Give Me Some Sugah continues that creative direction with another story rooted in faith and community.
