The Super Eagles will look to make it two wins from two when they face Guinea-Bissau in their second Group L match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Tuesday.
Nigeria opened their campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Ehsan Kari put Madagascar ahead after 16 minutes, but debutant George Ilenikhena equalised in first-half stoppage time. Moses Usor then completed the comeback in the 65th minute to give Eric Chelle’s side all three points.
Guinea-Bissau also started their campaign with a victory, beating Tanzania 2-0 away from home. Franculino Djú opened the scoring in the 33rd minute before Mama Baldé doubled the lead in the second half.
The result leaves Guinea-Bissau and Nigeria level on three points, with the Djurtus ahead on goal difference.
Tuesday’s meeting in Bissau will bring the two early Group L leaders together as both teams target another positive result.
Nigeria will again miss Victor Osimhen, who continues to recover from a muscle injury. The striker missed the opening two qualifiers after the injury ruled him out of the squad.
Tanzania already have a guaranteed place at the 2027 AFCON as co-hosts alongside Kenya and Uganda. Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar will therefore compete for the group’s remaining qualifying place.
The Super Eagles will face Guinea-Bissau at the Estádio 24 de Setembro in Bissau, with kick-off set for 5:00 p.m. Nigerian time on Tuesday, September 29.
