Parents and community members in Mussa and Lassa communities of Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State have given the Federal Government six days to rescue their children who have remained in captivity for more than 130 days.
The affected parents staged a protest in Maiduguri on Sunday, appealing to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the relevant security authorities to secure the immediate release of the abducted children.
The parents warned that they would take their protest to the Presidential Villa in Abuja if the children were not rescued within the six-day ultimatum.
Chairman of the Mussa Parents of Abductees, Shuibu Umaru, questioned why some children abducted in Oyo State had been rescued while those from Mussa and Lassa remained in captivity.
Umaru said the families could no longer remain silent over the prolonged detention of their children and urged the Federal Government to take urgent action.
The member representing Askira/Uba and Hawul Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dr Midala Usman Balami, said the children were abducted on May 15, 2026, and had spent more than 130 days in captivity.
Balami said he had raised the matter at the National Assembly and continued to engage relevant authorities over the situation.
According to him, the affected communities include Mussa and Lassa, while travellers were also reportedly abducted along the Buratai Road.
The lawmaker called on the Federal and Borno State governments to deploy all available resources towards securing the safe release of the victims and reuniting them with their families.
The parents’ protest comes amid renewed concerns over the prolonged captivity of civilians in parts of Borno State, where insurgency has continued to pose security challenges.
The families are now awaiting government action before the expiration of their six-day ultimatum, with the threatened protest in Abuja expected to follow if the children remain in captivity.
