The Nigeria Police Force has summoned social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, to answer questions over allegations he made against Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG Moshood Jimoh, while also inviting the senior police officer for questioning as part of its ongoing investigation.
The Force said it remains committed to due process and also promised to investigate every credible allegation. Police added that no officer is above the law.
Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, released the statement on Tuesday and said investigators had completed the criminal case linked to the allegations. The Directorate of Public Prosecutions later advised that prosecutors should take the matter to court.
The police said the case is now before a court of competent jurisdiction. They stressed that the judiciary alone will determine the outcome. The Force also said it would not try the case in the media. It urged Nigerians to allow the legal process to continue without interference.
The Force confirmed that the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja invited VeryDarkMan on July 30, 2026. Investigators asked him to appear before the Force CID. They also requested evidence to support the allegations he made publicly.
The police also invited AIG Moshood Jimoh for questioning. According to the statement, the Assistant Inspector General in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department approved the invitation. The Force said the decision shows its commitment to fairness. It added that every credible allegation deserves proper investigation, regardless of the rank of the officer or the status of the complainant.
The police said the Constitution, the Police Act 2020, Police Regulations and Force Orders guide every disciplinary process. They also recognised the right of Nigerians to express their opinions and criticise public institutions.
However, the Force warned against spreading false or unverified allegations. It said freedom of expression does not protect defamation or attempts to pressure authorities into taking disciplinary action outside the law.
The police said they will punish any officer found guilty after a proper investigation. They also warned that anyone who makes false allegations to damage another person’s reputation could face legal action.
The Force urged VeryDarkMan to honour the invitation from the Force CID. It asked all parties to allow investigators and the court to complete their work. The police repeated that professionalism, accountability and transparency remain their guiding principles. They also reaffirmed that no police officer is above the law.
