The Nigerian military has sustained pressure on criminal elements across the country, recording fresh successes in its ongoing operations with the rescue of kidnapped victims and intensified offensives against terrorist groups.
In one of the latest operations, troops of Combat Team 2, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Kaura Namoda, under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued eight victims after engaging armed terrorists in a gun battle in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation followed credible intelligence received at about 8:30 p.m. on July 14 that terrorists had attacked Ungwan Rogo community and abducted several residents.
The troops swiftly deployed to the area and engaged the terrorists in a fierce exchange of gunfire. Overwhelmed by the troops’ superior firepower, the attackers fled, abandoning the eight kidnapped victims and two vehicles.
The soldiers rescued all eight victims unharmed and secured the recovered vehicles.
Military sources said troops have maintained aggressive patrols across the area to deny the terrorists freedom of movement, prevent them from regrouping, and protect surrounding communities from further attacks.
