Diallo's Late Strike Seals Shock Ivory Coast Victory Over France

Amad Diallo scored a late goal to give Ivory Coast a surprise 2-1 win over France in a World Cup warm-up match on Thursday.

France started well and took the lead just before halftime. Rayan Cherki beat his marker with quick footwork and fired a low shot into the net.

Ivory Coast responded strongly after the break. Guela Doue leveled the score in the 53rd minute. The defender, who was born in France, is the older brother of France international Desire Doue.

The Elephants continued to push forward and found a winner late in the game. Diallo, who came on as a substitute, reacted quickly inside the box and scored in the 84th minute.

The result capped an impressive comeback for Ivory Coast and handed France an unexpected defeat.

France captain Kylian Mbappe had a frustrating night. The forward hoped to break Olivier Giroud’s record of 57 goals for the national team. However, he failed to score and remained on 56 goals.

Head coach Didier Deschamps replaced Mbappe at halftime during his 97th appearance for France.

Despite the loss, France remain one of the favourites for the World Cup. They will face Northern Ireland in another friendly match on Monday in Lille.

France will then begin their World Cup campaign against Senegal on June 16 in East Rutherford as they chase a third world title.
