Popular gospel singer Yinka Alaseyori has apologized after facing criticism over her comments on the abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State.
In a video posted on Instagram on Wednesday, Alaseyori said she never intended to downplay the suffering of the victims or make Nigerians feel unheard. She explained that she spoke about the kidnapping in an earlier video and encouraged prayers amid the country’s security challenges.
However, many Nigerians criticised her remarks and argued that they failed to reflect the seriousness of the situation. The backlash prompted the singer to address the concerns directly.
“I am sorry. I beg in God’s name. Please forgive me. I would never think like that,” she said while appealing to parents and affected families.
Alaseyori insisted that she cares deeply about the victims and supports efforts to secure their release. She also expressed regret that her comments offended some Nigerians.
The controversy followed her earlier statement urging Nigerians to pray while government authorities worked to rescue the abducted pupils and teachers.
Meanwhile, the kidnapping in Oriire Local Government Area continues to attract national attention. Citizens and advocacy groups have called for urgent rescue operations and stronger security measures to protect schools across the country.
As concern grows, Alaseyori’s apology underscores the public’s demand for both compassion and decisive action in addressing insecurity.
