Nigeria’s youngest lawmaker, Rukayat Shittu, has emerged victorious in the APC primary election in Kwara State.
Shittu secured the party’s ticket for the Owode/Onire State Constituency seat in the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Reports said she defeated challenger Sulyman Ayegun in a closely watched APC primary exercise.
Owode/Onire politics has historically followed a rotational pattern that often limited lawmakers to a single term.
If successful in the general election, Shittu could become the first representative from the constituency to secure a second term.
Shittu previously became one of Nigeria’s youngest state lawmakers after winning election into the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Her emergence strengthens youth and female representation conversations as attention shifts toward the next electoral phase.
