The Abuja Guards Polo Club, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army Polo Resort, organized a special exhibition polo match to honour former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral A.Z. Gambo, on his 60th birthday.
The event featured four teams competing in two exhibition matches.
Team Alhusna defeated Team Kangal 2–0, while Team Antariqq secured a 6–3 victory over Team Frama Zaz.
Guests and dignitaries at the event described Vice Admiral Gambo as a committed leader who contributed significantly to national service during his military career.
A friend of the celebrant, Sani Musa, commended him for his leadership during his tenure as Chief of Naval Staff.
According to Musa, there was a record of low crime levels within the sub-Saharan region during Gambo’s time in office. He also prayed for good health and long life for the former naval chief.
Another associate, Ali M Ali, recalled praying for Gambo during his 50th birthday celebration to become Chief of Naval Staff and retire as a three-star admiral.
He expressed hope that friends and family would gather again in 10 years to celebrate the former naval chief’s 70th birthday.
Mallam Nasiru Haladu Danu also wished the celebrant good health and prayed for continued blessings upon him and his family.
The event ended with the presentation of trophies and awards to outstanding players and winning teams by the celebrant.
Speaking after the matches, Vice Admiral A.Z. Gambo appreciated the Abuja Guards Polo Club for organizing the celebration in his honor.
He also pledged to strengthen collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and the club, while thanking guests and supporters for attending the event.
