The House of Representatives has approved President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s request for a 516 million dollar loan to support the construction of key sections of the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway.
The major road project is one of the flagship plans under the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration. The government says the highway will improve movement of people, goods, and services across Nigeria.
The Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway will connect Illela in Sokoto State to Badagry in Lagos State. This means the road will link the North West directly to the South West through a modern high-capacity transport corridor.
Lawmakers said the project is important for national development because it will boost trade, improve access to markets, and reduce travel time for businesses and commuters.
The road is also expected to support economic growth in several states along the route by opening up more opportunities for investment, agriculture, and transport services.
Government officials believe the highway will help strengthen regional connections and make movement between northern and southern Nigeria faster and safer.
The approval of the loan request marks another major step in the federal government’s plan to improve infrastructure and drive economic expansion across the country.
Many Nigerians are now watching closely to see how quickly work will continue on the project and how it will impact jobs and business activities in the affected communities.
